Community Collection and Upcycling of HDPE and Flexible Plastics in Davao, Philippines (PPRS)
Community Collection and Upcycling of HDPE and Flexible Plastics in Davao, Philippines (PPRS)
This project partner upcycles rigid and flexible plastic waste collected by community partners into long-lasting outdoor furniture, such as benches, tables and lounge chairs.
The partner acquires plastic that’s been sorted, crushed and washed from partners who buy plastic from community members, including informal sector waste pickers, in Davao. They first make sturdy plastic boards from the waste, then use it to build a wide variety of long-lasting outdoor furniture.
Every piece of furniture made by this upcycler diverts a significant amount of plastic away from landfills and oceans. Funding from plastic credits will allow them to buy more plastic from local partners, and to expand their facilities.
