Community Collection and Upcycling of Flexible and Rigid Plastics in Malabon, Philippines (PPRS)
This upcycling project aims to shift the local waste management system from linear to circular by monetizing the collection, sorting and aggregation of recyclable plastic.
The project buys plastic waste that’s been cleaned and sorted from local junk shops and local municipal ‘barangay’ material recovery facilities. They shred and recycle the plastic, including HDPE, PP, LDPE, into sachet flakes or pellets, which are then molded to products such as crates, pallets, trolleys and other durables at their facilities.
They aim to make their project more sustainable by encouraging companies to adopt Green Procurement Policies, specifically to prefer products made out of locally sourced post-consumer third party-validated plastic recyclables.
