Community Collection and Recycling of HDPE and PP in Valenzuela, Philippines (PPRS)
Community Collection and Recycling of HDPE and PP in Valenzuela, Philippines (PPRS)
This project partner buys rigid plastic, such as HDPE, which is used to make food and beverage containers, and polypropylene, which is often used in plastic bottle caps, that’s collected by waste pickers and aggregators.
This partner recycles this plastic waste into flakes and sells the recycled output to companies for use in various products.
Like many emerging markets, the Philippines lacks waste management infrastructure. The informal sector plays a critical role to play in waste recovery, segregation and recycling.
Financing gained through credits will be used to pay better prices and buy more plastic waste from aggregators and suppliers, ensuring a steady stream of raw materials. This helps build a circular economy, while generating more income and better livelihoods for the waste pickers in the informal sector.
