Community Collection and Recycling of PET in Bulacan, Philippines (PPRS)

This project partner recycles PET plastic into hot washed flakes that are sold to manufacturers to use in new products.

The partner purchases plastic from junk shops and other aggregators in multiple provinces who buy plastic bottles from informal sector waste pickers.  The project partner preprocesses the bottles on location, then ships the plastic to their recycling facility in Bulacan. 

The funds from plastic credits allows this project partner to increase the price it pays for plastic bottles, improving the livelihood of the waste pickers. A better price also incentivizes waste pickers to collect more PET bottles, increasing the supply delivered to their facility and diverting more plastic from landfills, nature and our oceans.
