This project partner is making a significant impact by actively collecting plastic waste from rivers, waterways, and shorelines, resulting in 1,300MT of plastic recovered from entering the ocean. By initiating the collectors team division within the firm, it is creating job opportunities in the recycling sectors, contributing to poverty reduction. By converting the collected ocean-bound plastic (OBP) into manufacturable resin and pyrolysis oil, this project partner is promoting sustainability in the plastic industries and raising awareness about the importance of plastic pollution mitigation. Additionally, it promotes community engagement through coastal clean-up efforts involving NGOs and corporate bodies.

This project partner’s collection of ocean-bound plastic (OBP) must be economically feasible, covering the wages of collectors, logistical costs, and additional processing required. Without the support of plastic credits, it’s efforts would be limited to areas near the facility. However, vast regions beyond it’s coverage would remain critical threats to the ocean and marine life. Therefore, the support of plastic credits is essential not only for expanding reach but also for ensuring that volumes of plastic entering their facilities are those that would not have been collected otherwise.
